Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea Home Test
Advances in technology now mean that many tests that were once only carried out by a doctor or nurse in the surgery can now be carried out at home.
Two of these tests are for Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea. In men and women a urine sample can be used to test for both these bacteria. For men this method of testing is over 98% sensitive (this means how successful at detecting the bacteria the test is). For women the Chlamydia sensitivity is about 90% and the sensitivity for Gonorrhoea on a urine sample is 85%. We therefore recommend that women test for Chlamydia on urine and attend WellCare for a Gonorrhoea test.
